Riding in a speeding car with no plates has led to the arrest of an Iowa City man on drug and weapons charges.
Police say 22-year-old Vance Dillon of Cross Park Avenue was a passenger in a white Buick that was seen speeding by officers just after 4pm Wednesday in the 1500 block of South First Avenue. They allegedly smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Additionally, a police K9 also indicated the presence of a narcotic odor.
Officers pulled the occupants out of the vehicle, and during a routine pat-down, Dillon was reportedly found with a firearm. A subsequent search of the vehicle found three tobacco wrappers containing marijuana in the center console.
Dillon had no concealed carry permit, and allegedly admitted to smoking marijuana about an hour before police stopped the vehicle.
Dillon was arrested and charged with Carrying Weapons and first offense Marijuana Possession, and could be sentenced to up to three years if convicted.
