More details have been released about an incident at a Coggin convenience store that resulted in a Linn County Sheriff’s deputy being shot several times after he responded to a robbery.

The incident occurred at 10:30 pm Sunday at the Casey’s General Store on Highway 13. Sources indicate that the deputy was shot several times inside the store.

The suspect, now identified as 36-year-old Stanley Donahue of Chicago, then fled in a van heading north. Another deputy spotted the vehicle and gave chase. The vehicle crashed and Donahue ran away. He’s believed to be between 5’10” and 6’2” in height, weighing between 200 and 220 pounds, and was last seen wearing a dark hoodie and dark pants.

Linn County Sheriff Brian Gardner said Monday morning that he hopes Donahue surrenders to authorities peacefully.

The deputy was airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, where he’s being treated for serious injuries. His condition was reported to be stable.
