An Iowa City man who is on supervised release on a felony assault charge has been accused of OWI and harassing two victims.

According to a court complaint, 39-year-old Brian Laschke of Taft Avenue SE was charged with the OWI on Tuesday after he was observed driving on the fog line, crossing the center line, and driving down the middle of two lanes. Authorities say he had droopy eyes, delayed movements, and slowed speech. Laschke allegedly admitted to smoking marijuana. A probable cause search turned up a quantity of the drug and drug paraphernalia.

Later that day, Laschke is accused of sending a series of threatening text messages to two victims. He reportedly was upset with one especially, as he believed that the person was a “snitch” who got him arrested on a drug violation. One of the texts allegedly had Laschke threatening to come to one of the victim’s home to kill them, placing both in fear for their safety.

The court request indicates that Laschke continues to pose a risk to himself and the community.

Laschke is charged with the OWI along with 2nd degree Harassment. If convicted on the new counts, he could be sentenced to up to two years in jail.
