A Coralville man faces multiple charges stemming from an alleged OWI Sunday night.

According to police, 26-year-old Daryl Jenkins of 9th Street was observed leaving the rear parking lot of Tailgators on First Street and traveling northbound below the 25 mile-per-hour speed limit. He then turned into the Kum & Go, pulling up next to a pump.

Jenkins left the vehicle, and the officer recognized him from past interactions and knew his driving status to be revoked. While speaking with Jenkins, the officer reported that there was an odor of marijuana coming from him. The officer asked Jenkins where the marijuana was, and Jenkins then leaned over a trash can and reportedly attempted to destroy a small bag of marijuana.

Jenkins was arrested and allegedly resisted commands to put his hands behind his back. He also refused all field and chemical testing.

A check of his driving record showed a previous OWI conviction from February and a pending OWI conviction from March 20th in Jackson County.

Jenkins was charged with 2nd offense Operating While Intoxicated, Obstruction of Prosecution, Driving While Revoked, Marijuana Possession and Interference with Official Acts. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to over six years in prison.
