An Iowa City man who was wanted on two theft charges was arrested over the weekend.

The first incident involving 63-year-old Nathaniel Burgs of Gilbert Court occurred on October 16th of last year. He reportedly visited the Coralville Public Library and checked out a laptop with case, mouse and wireless hotspot that was supposed to be returned within a week. Burgs did not respond to attempts by the library to contact him about the overdue laptop, and police were unable to locate him after receiving a report on the incident. A warrant was issued for his arrest.

Then on May 20th, Burgs allegedly was at the Comfort Suites on James Court in Coralville at approximately 2:30 am. He reportedly seemed to be walking around casing the area, and when no one was around is accused of going behind the clerk counter and taking money from the cash drawer. It’s believed he took cash and change totaling $237.85. Another officer identified Burgs from previous encounters, and a second warrant was requested.

Police were able to locate Burgs and booked him into the Johnson County Jail Saturday. He’s been charged with two counts of 3rd Degree Theft and could be sentenced to up to four years in prison if convicted on both charges.
