The combination of most students leaving Iowa City for the summer, more local residents getting vaccinated and the arrival of nicer weather have all led to almost non-existent COVID-19 numbers for the University of Iowa.
According to the school’s now-weekly coronavirus update, zero new COVID-19 cases have been reported among students since Friday. There were also no resident hall occupants in self-isolation or quarantine. Self-isolation is used to separate people infected with the virus from those who are not infected, while quarantine is used to keep someone who might have been exposed to COVID-19 away from others.
While no new students have reported positive tests since Friday, two UI employees have reported testing positive during the same timeframe.
The university’s COVID-19 updates can be found every Wednesday at coronavirus.uiowa.edu. This week the school scaled back from the previous three updates per week.
