A North Liberty man already accused of a domestic assault charge last year is accused of assaulting the woman again, this time while she is pregnant with their child.

Police were called to the North Jones Boulevard apartment of 21-year-old Caleb Mason and the woman for a domestic disturbance just before 7 pm Thursday. Neighbors could hear the woman yelling “ow” and called police. The arrest report indicates that Mason took the woman’s phone and wouldn’t give it back after he allegedly assaulted her and she wanted to call the police because she was scared.

Mason then reportedly locked her outside on an elevated deck so she couldn’t leave. She stated that she had to scream for help in hopes that someone would call the police.

When confronted with this information, Mason allegedly admitted to taking the phone and told them that he had marijuana wax in his pocket that he claimed was a mixture of his and the victim’s.

Police were called to the same location in October last year on a domestic. Officers heard items being thrown and stomping upon arrival. The woman said that the two got into an argument after she confronted Mason about him being unfaithful to her. She reportedly had Mason’s phone, and he grabbed her arm, causing bruising. He was convicted on November 9th of Domestic Assault and sentenced to 7 days in jail and a $105 fine.

Mason was charged in Thursday’s incident with 2nd offense Domestic Assault, False Imprisonment, Obstruction of Emergency Communications, and Marijuana possession. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to over four years in prison.

A no-contact order was requested between the two parties.
