A Cedar Rapids man who eluded Coralville police at speeds exceeding over twice the limit through a residential area was arrested after being located nearby the vehicle he abandoned.

The incident involved 18-year-old Dayvel Faulkner of 18th Street Southeast. He was observed heading eastbound on 5th Street at a high rate of speed. He allegedly failed to stop for the red light at its intersection with 12th street and began passing vehicles.

Officers activated lights and sirens, but Faulkner did not stop, traveling over 60 miles an hour in a posted 25 miles per hour zone. He abandoned the vehicle near 5th and 1st Avenue and fled on foot. He was later found in the area and allegedly admitted to being the man officers were looking for.

Faulkner was charged with Eluding and Interference with Official Acts and could be sentenced to up to 25 months in jail if convicted.
