Cedar Rapids Police are on scene after getting reports of a shots fired incident overnight.

No details are being released as of yet, but the incident occurred just after 3am in the 1500 block of A Avenue Northeast.

Further details will be forthcoming as the investigation continues.

This is the second shots fired incident over the last 24 hours; just before 11am Monday, a report of shots fired came in near the area of Park Avenue and 19th Street Southeast. Arriving officers found shell casings in the 1800 block of Park Avenue Southeast and a vehicle that had been struck by gunfire.

Police later arrested 23-year-old Aaron Washington, and recovered a handgun at the home where he was apprehended.

Police say Washington and two women, aged 20 and 22, were arguing when he aimed a handgun at them and started firing rounds into their vehicle. The two drove off and weren’t injured.

Washington was charged with two counts of attempted murder, intimidation with a dangerous weapon and assault going armed with intent. If convicted on all charges, he faces up to 65 years in prison.
