A police officer reportedly suffered injuries that included a dislocated shoulder when conducting an arrest Thursday night.

According to arrest reports, 34-year-old Darnell Muldrow of 5th Street in Coralville was pulled over in the 2400 block of the Coralville Strip for running a red light. He was found to not be a valid driver, so he was ordered out of his vehicle, a 2006 Chevy Malibu.

Muldrow began emptying his pockets, putting items including a marijuana wax cartridge on his trunk. He reportedly told the officer that he had smoked weed before driving, and had smoked meth earlier in the day.

An Iowa City police officer certified as a drug recognition expert was called to the scene, and after evaluating Muldrow, concluded that he was too impaired to be operating a motor vehicle. Muldrow then fled from officers while they attempted to take him into custody, engaging them combatively while he resisted.

The arrest report notes that an officer suffered pain in their knee, and another had a dislocated shoulder because of the altercation.

Muldrow was charged with OWI first offense, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Interference with Official Acts causing Bodily Injury. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to up to three years in prison.
