A Coralville woman was taken into custody after an OWI stop allegedly turned up a gun and ammo.

Police stopped 48-year-old Jennifer Lukes of 13th Street Friday night just after 11:30. She was observed stopping well past the stop line at the intersection of Front Street and Forevergreen Road. After heading eastbound on Forevergreen, they stopped her in the 3200 block of 12th Avenue. Lukes allegedly had bloodshot watery eyes and a strong odor of consumed alcohol. She performed poorly on field testing and reportedly refused PBT and Datamaster testing.

During the stop, Lukes allegedly stated that she had a firearm in the vehicle’s glovebox. Police identified it as a Taurus Spectrum .380 caliber handgun with a fully-loaded 6-round magazine. Another loaded 6-round magazine was located next to the gun, as well as a box of ammunition containing an additional 50 rounds.

Lukes has been charged with OWI first offense and Carrying Weapons. She could be sentenced to up to three years in prison if convicted on both charges.
