A University of Iowa student faces several charges after he was observed drinking beer in public in downtown Iowa City.
According to arrest reports, 20-year-old Henry Dean of Pasadena, California, was walking southbound on Dubuque Street near Iowa Avenue at 1:10 am Saturday. He was reportedly holding an open beer, and police told him to stop. That allegedly prompted Dean to run. He was given several orders to stop running, but he continued on. He was eventually caught and placed under arrest. An officer suffered a bruised hip during the chase.
Dean was reportedly found with several bar wristbands on despite his being under drinking age. Police allegedly found a South Carolina driver’s license showing another name and birthdate making him seem to be 22 years old.
Dean allegedly had a strong odor of ingested alcohol, slurred speech and impaired balance. A further search reportedly turned up a small amount of marijuana in a container.
Dean has been charged with Public Intoxication, Open Container in a Public Place, Unlawful use of License, Possession of Alcohol under legal age 2nd offense, Interference with Official Acts causing Bodily Injury, and Marijuana possession. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to up to 26 months in prison.
