A suspect is in custody and charged with first degree Murder after a fatal stabbing at a Cedar Rapids hotel overnight.

A release from the City indicates that a 911 call came in right after Midnight Monday indicating that someone had been stabbed in a guest room at the Residence Inn on Dodge Street Northeast. Officers and first responders found a 33-year-old man on scene who had sustained a stab wound to the upper torso. Although emergency medical care was administered, the victim died and pronounced deceased.

An investigation determined that there were several individuals in the room at the time of the stabbing. A verbal argument between the victim and suspect, who allegedly were known to each other, led to the fatal stabbing.

39-year-old Victoriano Dias-Barrera was arrested for the murder, as well as Going Armed with Intent, and Assault with a Dangerous Weapon.

Another man on scene was wanted on a murder warrant from Texas. He was identified as 29-year-old Anthony Diaz, and taken to the Linn County Correctional Center.

The name of the victim is currently being withheld pending notification of family members. The investigation is ongoing.
