Why did the transient cross the road? In the case of a West Liberty man, it was apparently to fight with police.
An Iowa City Police officer reports seeing 18-year-old Julio Estrada falling down on the side of Highway 6 in front of the Bon Aire manufactured housing community just before 12:30 Saturday morning. Estrada then ran onto the highway, where he was nearly struck by a vehicle.
Police say Estrada then tried to run from the officer. Once he was in the officer’s grasp, Estrada allegedly tried to pull away. A Spanish-speaking officer was brought to the scene to translate.
Estrada allegedly smelled of ingested alcohol and was unsteady on his feet. He was arrested and charged with Interference With Official Acts and Public Intoxication. If convicted on both charges, Estrada faces a maximum of 60 days in jail.
Estrada is listed in police records as a transient from West Liberty.
