Fight over stimulus money leads to arrest of Iowa City man

A domestic argument over stimulus money has led to the arrest of an Iowa City man.

According to the arrest report, officers responded to the 2500 block of Bartelt Road on March 20th before 2pm for reports of a couple fighting. It was reported that the male was dragging the female into the apartment building. Upon arrival, the woman as sitting outside the building, crying.

According to the alleged victim, she got into an argument with her husband, 41-year-old Elfadil Hassan, about stimulus money. She stated that he hit her on the side of the face, knocked her down and dragged her into the apartment building. Officers noted the woman had swelling around her left eye, had ripped clothes, and abrasions on her leg from being dragged.

A warrant for Hassan’s arrest was issued the following Monday, and he was arrested the next day. He’s charged with Domestic Abuse Assault 2nd offense, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a jail term of up to two years if convicted.
