Iowa City man accused of stealing merchandise from distributor truck

An Iowa City man who allegedly stole merchandise from a Red Bull distributor’s truck has been charged with burglary.

According to the arrest report, 18-year-old Lance Smith of Shire Lane was at the Muscatine Avenue Kum & Go at approximately 1:20pm Friday March 12th. Surveillance video from the store allegedly shows Smith and a juvenile entering the parked and unoccupied Red Bull truck and stealing several cases of the product.

The distributors reportedly confronted the two, who fled southbound in a silver Lexus. Smith was identified by the driver of the Lexus and other people in the vehicle. Smith was located Monday, and admitted that he and the juvenile entered the truck and stole the merchandise.

Smith was booked at the Johnson County Jail and charged with 3rd degree Burglary of a Motor Vehicle, and could be sentenced to up to two years in jail if convicted.
