Police say a drunk driver was so intoxicated he thought rural Oxford was Iowa City.

According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, just before 2:15am on March 7th, deputies noticed 20-year-old Glenn Norris of Johnston driving his 2001 Lexus slowly on Blackhawk Avenue. Norris then pulled into a business driveway and stayed parked for several minutes, leading to the deputy checking to see if he needed assistance.

The deputy reports noticing that Norris seemed nervous, appeared lost, and showed signs of impairment. Norris allegedly told the officer that he had just left Iowa City, and was trying to get to another location in Iowa City. The deputy found the story bizarre since Norris was actually in rural Oxford.

Norris allegedly admitted to drinking “four to four-and-a-half shots” shortly before driving. His blood alcohol content was measured at .174% on a portable Breathalyzer test and .178% on a Datamatser.

Norris was arrested and charged with Operating While Intoxicated.
