An Iowa City man arrested for his first OWI has also been charged with criminal mischief after allegedly causing damage to City property.
32-year-old Donald Studnicka, who lists his address as Shelter House, was stopped for a traffic violation in the 200 block of East Washington Street on Saturday night. Officers say they immediately detected the strong odor of ingested alcohol, and allegedly observed Studnicka with slurred speech and bloodshot watery eyes.
When asked to step out of his vehicle, Studnicka reportedly refused several times before finally agreeing. He performed poorly on field tests and was taken to the Police Department.
Studnicka is accused of attempting to damage city property, and physically resisted officers who were trying to stop him, reportedly thrashing at them. He allegedly shoved a desk into a wall, causing a significant puncture in the drywall.
Chemical testing was refused, and Studnicka was charged with his first OWI, Interference with Official Acts causing Injury, and criminal mischief. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to over two years in jail.
