A United States House of Representatives committee has decided to hold off on deciding whether to dismiss a challenge in Iowa’s 2nd congressional district race.
The Daily Iowan reports that Marianette Miller-Meeks, who was certified winner, wanted a notice of contest filed by her opponent, Democrat Rita Hart, who lost by just six votes. The challenge, under the Federal Contested Election Act, focuses on over 22 uncounted ballots that she says would put her ahead in the race. She wants Congress to intervene and recount all the ballots cast in the race across the district.
Miller-Meeks says that Hart was out of order filing her contest before using up all her challenge options in Iowa.
The House Administration Committee voted along party lines to postpone its decision, and will question both parties on the merits of the contest.
