Cedar Rapids Police say an officer was injured by a drunk driver as he was directing traffic after a car-motorcycle crash Tuesday night.
According to the initial release from the Cedar Rapids Police Department, they were assisted by the fire department and medical personnel when they responded to a report of an accident involving a motorcycle and a car around 9pm.
It was determined that the cycle struck a Toyota. The driver and the passenger in the Toyota weren’t injured, but a male and female were thrown from their motorcycle. The man was transported to a local hospital and eventually transferred to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, while the woman victim was transported directly to the UIHC.
At approximately 11:10 pm, a vehicle driven by 42-year old Joseph Weber, struck an officer who was in his squad car parked for traffic control. The officer was treated at a local hospital and released; Weber was charged with OWI first offense and two other traffic violations. He was transported to the Linn County Jail, and Weber’s preliminary hearing has been scheduled for March 30th.
The accident remains under investigation; the names of those injured has yet to be released.
