Two people, including a minor, were injured in a two-vehicle crash in southwest Johnson County.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, the incident happened just after 9:15 Monday morning on Black Hawk Avenue near its intersection with 540th Street, west of Frytown. The State Patrol says a Peterbilt truck was trying to tow a construction vehicle out of the east ditch. When it was unsuccessful, the truck moved to the west shoulder with the tow cable extending over both lanes of traffic, still attached to the construction vehicle across the road. A northbound 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 then struck the cable, ricocheting it into the construction vehicle in the ditch.
The driver of the Dodge Ram, identified as 27-year-old James H. Harter III of Wellman, was airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics after being extricated from his vehicle by the Wellman Fire Department.
A minor in Harter’s vehicle was also transported to the UIHC via ambulance. Their conditions have not been released.
The Peterbilt was unoccupied at the time of the crash.
