21 year old autistic Iowa City man found near Burlington after going missing

A 21-year-old autistic Iowa City man reported missing from his Plain View Drive home Saturday afternoon was located 24 hours later, miles away.

Iowa City police received a missing persons report around 4:30pm on Siraj White-Wright. He was last seen wearing a sweater, jeans and no coat. He reportedly left home on foot, and doesn’t drive.

On Sunday afternoon, calls came in about a possible sighting of White-Wright walking southbound on Highway 218. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Department later got a call about a possible sighting of the man just South of Kalona at approximately 12:30am.

A motorist found White-Wright at approximately 4:45pm Sunday south of Burlington. He was reported to be in good condition, and arrangements were made for him to be reunited with his family.

In their release, the Iowa City Police Department thanked the Johnson County Joint Emergency Communications Center and Emergency Management Agency, Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office, community members, and volunteers who assisted in the search and safe return of the man.
