An Iowa City man due to be arraigned on OWI charges from Christmas Eve was taken into custody for the same offense early Thursday morning.

Police say they stopped 34-year-old Barrington Vaxter of I street near Court and Clinton Streets for a traffic violation at around 1:20am. He allegedly had bloodshot watery eyes, smelled of ingested alcohol, and admitted to drinking. He reportedly performed poorly on field testing, and had a .177 percent blood alcohol level on a PBT. A subsequent Datamaster reading was .146 percent.

A check of his driving record showed his status as revoked for a previous OWI until July of this year. Iowa Courts shows that he is to be arraigned this Monday on the incident, which occurred last Christmas Eve.

Vaxter has been charged with OWI and Driving while Revoked. He could be sentenced to up to two years in jail on Thursday’s incident.
