Allegedly attacking her ex-boyfriend’s new girlfriend during the lunch rush at an Iowa City restaurant has led to a North Liberty woman’s arrest.
Iowa City Police responded to a fight in the Panchero’s parking lot on South Riverside Drive just before 11:15am on January 29th. Arriving officers found the victim with multiple bruises, swelling, and injuries to her face, head and chest. The woman told investigators that her boyfriend’s ex-girlfriend, 27-year-old Shawana Coleman of Nicholas Lane, had assaulted her as she sat in her car. Coleman then allegedly pulled the woman out of the car and punched her multiple times.
The victim fled into the restaurant. Coleman allegedly entered the woman’s car, took her iPhone 7+, and threw it, causing it to break.
Security video from inside Panchero’s shows Coleman arguing with her ex-boyfriend before the alleged assault. An independent witness also reported seeing Coleman enter or trying to enter the vehicle.
Police say Coleman admitted to the assault and to breaking the iPhone. She’s charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury and 5th Degree Criminal Mischief. If convicted on all charges, she faces a maximum of 13 months in jail.
