Iowa City man accused of throwing a tantrum at Johnson County Jail

A Johnson County jail inmate has been further charged after allegedly throwing a tantrum over the food he was served.

The incident occurred during the dinner meal Monday at the jail on Capitol Street. 44-year-old Kennthony Jackson of East Burlington Street in Iowa City became upset with his meal, and broke the window of his cell door during his alleged aggressive tantrum.

Jackson is already facing charges that he stalked his ex-girlfriend and threatened to kill her. Police say over the course of a month, he constantly called, texted, showed up at the workplace of, called the workplace of, and threatened his ex-girlfriend. The woman was forced to move because she felt unsafe.

Investigators say they found numerous messages on the woman’s and Jackson’s phones that, according to police, included a “constant flow of threats” including threats to kill the ex-girlfriend as well as “stomp” her at her workplace and put a gun in her mouth.

Police say Jackson admitted to threatening the woman, but he said he only did so because he was mad about money. He was taken into custody January 29th and was charged with Stalking and 1st Degree Harassment. He faces up to four years in prison on those charges, and an additional two for the criminal mischief incident on Monday. He’s due to be arraigned on the first two charges on March 1st.
