An Iowa City man faces decades in prison after allegedly selling cocaine on Snapchat.

University of Iowa Police say that on December 9th an undercover detective made contact with 20-year-old Trevion Gathright after he allegedly created a video on the popular social media app that advertised various illegal substances for sale. Gathright allegedly met with the undercover officer on the 1100 block of 2nd Avenue after agreeing to sell the officer 3.5 grams of cocaine in exchange for $250.

Gathright also allegedly arranged to sell two grams of cocaine to an undercover officer for $160 on November 12th. That meeting was set up at Taco Bell on Highway 6 East. A third transaction was allegedly conducted at Gathright’s Broadway Street apartment on November 30th, where 3.5 grams of cocaine was sold for $275.

Gathright was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 12:30 Friday afternoon and charged with three Controlled Substance Violations. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of 30 years in prison.

Gathright was given a seven-year suspended sentence and three years of probation last month after he was found with four bags of marijuana, dozens of prescription pills,  a gun and brass knuckles in his car in April of 2020. Friday’s arrest is considered a violation of Gathright’s probation.
