“Finders keepers” is not actual legal precedent, as a Coralville man learned the hard way Thursday.
That’s when a warrant was issued for the arrest of 54-year-old Robert Lindsey of 1st Avenue. Iowa City Police say that on September 8th Lindsey was at Money & More on South Riverside Drive around 6pm when another customer dropped a $100 bill he had just received from the pawn shop. Lindsey, who was standing next to the man, picked up the bill and put it in his pocket. The victim didn’t realize he had dropped the money.
When investigators reached Lindsey by phone, he told them he took the $100 bill because he needed the money. He’s charged with 5th Degree Theft. Trial is set for April 1st.
