An Iowa City woman who allegedly took offense at being called out for not wearing a mask has been arrested after reportedly spitting on them.

The incident occurred at the Walgreens on the Coralville Strip the evening of December 27th.  According to police, 30-year-old Evelyn Chinchilla of Basswood lane spit on two people who made a comment about her not wearing a mask in the store. Both victims, along with Chinchilla, then became entangled and fell to the ground, fighting.

Chinchilla is accused of pulling out a handful of hair of one of the victims while scratching her nose. The other victim allegedly was bit by Chinchilla, breaking skin through their shirt.

Officers got a positive ID on Chinchilla, as she gave her name to the store clerk, and from her driver’s license picture shown to the clerk and the victims.

A warrant was issued on January 4th; she was arrested Tuesday afternoon and charged with two counts of Assault Causing Bodily Injury. If convicted, she faces up to two years in prison.
