An Iowa City man who just had a no contact order dropped against him has been accused of assaulting the woman involved.

Police say the incident occurred on Friday (Jan 22) just before 11am at the Town and Campus residence of Tremell Wilkins. He allegedly told officers that the woman involved committed the assault, but she reportedly was crying and afraid to return to the apartment they share. She was visibly upset, and worried about what would happen if Wilkins was allowed to stay in the apartment.

Wilkins allegedly admitted to trying to get the woman arrested.

Police report that they have arrested Wilkins in the past for domestic assault, but there have been no convictions. He reportedly told officers as they were taking him away that “someone was going to pay.”

Wilkins has been charged with domestic abuse assault first offense, a simple misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to 30 days if convicted.
