A Coralville woman who’s facing charges involved with the April murder of an Iowa City man in his Broadway Street residence last April now faces weapons charges.
Officers executed a search warrant on 31-year-old Whitney Claybon’s Boston Way apartment on Wednesday afternoon, and say they found five rounds of .22 caliber LR ammunition in her purse.
Claybon was convicted of domestic abuse assault in 2017 and is not allowed to possess firearms or ammunition, and under Miranda allegedly admitted knowing the ammo was in her purse.
She’s been charged with Dominion or Control of Firearms by a Domestic Abuse Offender, a Class D Felony punishable by a prison sentence of up to five years if convicted.
Claybon faces Obstruction and Accessory After the Fact charges in the murder of Kejuan Winters on April 20th. She’s accused of telling investigators that she drove one of the suspects in the case to Chicago to help him escape the area, but they later learned that she drove him to Minnesota instead. She faces up to four years in prison if convicted on those charges; a Case Management Conference is scheduled for February 1st.
