An Iowa City woman who allegedly stole a man’s Iphone has been arrested.

According to police, 23-year-old Jade Alcaraz of South Van Buren Street and the man were arguing at his Muscatine Avenue residence around 4:15 Friday morning.  She was reportedly going through his IPhone 8+ and was arguing with him. The man and his roommate threatened to call police, and she then allegedly left with his phone.

Arriving officers were told that Alcaraz left in a red Toyota, which was later located outside of her apartment. When making contact with her, Alcaraz admitted to being at the man’s residence, had possession of his Iphone and was going through it. She claimed to have thrown the phone while inside his residence, but neither the man nor his roommate saw her do that, and the phone wasn’t located inside the apartment.

Alcaraz was charged with 4th degree theft, a serious misdemeanor. Later that day, Judge Deborah Minot waived her initial appearance and an arraignment will be set at a later date.
