The president of an Iowa City condo association has been arrested on theft and money laundering charges.
39-year-old Anna Hernandez, the sole board member of the Fox Hollow Condominium Owner’s Association on Westside Drive, was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 11:30 Tuesday morning. Iowa City Police say Hernandez misappropriated over $74,000 between August of 2019 and July of 2020. The association’s web site shows annual revenue for 2020 of just over $78,000.
Police say Hernandez issued checks to herself, made cash withdrawals, purchases and wire transfers on the association’s bank account, linked Venmo, CashApp and PayPal accounts to the account and used those accounts to divert money from the association.
Hernendez allegedly used a relative’s account to deposit checks written from the account.
Hernandez is charged with 1st Degree Theft and Money Laundering. If convicted on both charges, she faces a maximum of 20 years in prison.
