Signing up for car insurance after an accident and attempting to file a claim has led to a Cedar Rapids man being charged with insurance fraud.
The Iowa Insurance Division reports that 58-year-old William Velky was involved in a two-vehicle collision in Cedar Rapids in October which resulted in both property damage and bodily injury. After the incident, Velky allegedly obtained car insurance by phone and then reported the accident had occurred after the policy was put in force.
Velky was charged in Linn County Court on December 22nd and was ordered to appear at a later date. Insurance Fraud involving an application submission is a Class D Felony punishable by a prison terms of up to five years if convicted.
