Cedar Rapids Police identify December shooting fatality

Cedar Rapids Police confirmed Monday that the woman shot on December 22nd during an incident on Westdale Drive Southwest has died from her injuries.
According to a release from the department, officers responded to the 2100 block for a shooting incident in a second floor apartment at 3:25pm. Arriving police discovered an 18-year-old woman who had a life-threatening gunshot wound. She was first transported to a local hospital, then transferred to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

The woman, Marisa Doolin of Cedar Rapids, was declared legally dead on December 26th. Police say Doolin was kept on life support for a period of time afterwards so that her organs could be donated.

The homicide investigation is continuing, and police are urging anyone with information regarding this crime to contact them at 319-286-5491.
