With one of the worst years in the arts and entertainment industries in the books and a way to go before things return to normal, the state of Iowa has announced the recipients of the $7 million in grant money to help area venues weather the storm.

Several Johnson and Linn County icons will get some of that relief.

According to the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs, there were over 260 nonprofits, live music and government-owned cultural venues awarded grants. Locally, they include the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts, Gabe’s, FilmScene, Hancher Auditorium, Johnson County Historical Society, Summer of the Arts, the Englert Theatre, and Wildwood. The largest award went to the Iowa Children’s Museum, who received $114,000.

Cedar Rapids area recipients include Brucemore, Cedar Rapids Museum of Art, McGrath Ampitheatre, the National Czech and Slovak Museum and Library, and Theatre Cedar Rapids. Orchestra Iowa received the most, with $175,000. That was also the largest amount awarded statewide; Davenport’s Putnam Museum and some Des Moines area entities also got $175,000 grants.

The Hoover Presidential Library and Museum got a grant of $93,700.
