A Christmas morning fire heavily damaged a mobile home in the Regency manufactured housing community, sending one person to the hospital.

According to the Hills Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched to 206 Blackfoot Trail  at 9:41am for smoke and fire showing from a residence. Arriving crews saw smoke and fire coming from multiple sides of the trailer. The fire was so thick firefighters were unable to initially enter. The blaze was eventually brought under control, but not before the damage sustained made the unit unlivable.

One resident was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. His or her condition has not been released. Several pets died in the fire.

The cause of the blaze is believed to be an electronic space heater that ignited nearby materials.

The Hills Fire Department was assisted by the fire departments of Lone Tree, Riverside and Iowa City. On its Facebook page, the Hills department thanked the residents of Regency for providing refreshments and snacks while firefighters were at the scene.
