After doing a flip and injuring his ankle after scoring a touchdown during Iowa’s win against Wisconsin December 12th, it was unsure whether he’d be ready for next week’s Music City Bowl.

Now we know Ihmir Smith-Marsette won’t be there for sure.

On Thursday, the New Jersey native declared for the NFL Draft.

In a post on Twitter, Smith Marsette thanked coaches Kirk and Brian Ferentz, Kelton Copeland and the rest of the staff for providing him an opportunity to showcase his talents and abilities at a Division I level, and in front of what he called “the greatest fans in college football.”

Smith-Marsette added, “I look forward to continuing to represent the Iowa Hawkeyes at the next level.”

His Hawkeye career ended with a bang, racking up a career-high 140 yards on seven receptions in the Wisconsin game.

His career stats show how versatile he is; Smith-Marsette is 18th on the school’s career receiving yards list, with 110 catches for 1615 yards and 14 TDs. He also rushed 34 times for 274 yards, and is second all-time on punt returns, averaging 28.8 yards on 53 returns as a Hawkeye.

The team is currently pausing in-person activities until at least Saturday after a COVID-19 outbreak among Coach Kirk Ferentz, six assistant coaches, and a handful of players. If they’re able, they’ll be in Nashville December 30th for the TransPerfect Music City Bowl, kicking off at 3pm on ESPN.
