An Iowa City man was taken into custody Wednesday morning after a domestic incident that resulted in the injury of a ten-month-old child.
According to police, 22-year-old Curtis Jordan of West Benton Street arrived home from work and a verbal argument ensued between him and the child’s mother. The woman, who was holding their 10-month old child at the time, retreated into a back bedroom and was standing near the door.
Jordan allegedly hit the door open, causing it to hit the wall and strike the woman’s jaw and the child’s head. The child reportedly started crying immediately and suffered a red mark on her forehead, while the woman suffered pain in the jaw, having had a preexisting medical issue in that area.
Jordan was charged with Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Injury, and Child Endangerment. If convicted on both charges, he could be sentenced to up to six years in prison.
