An Iowa City man has been charged with Child Endangerment after an incident with his 7-year-old daughter earlier this month.

According to police, 46-year-old Jason Wallace of East Court Street became upset with his child and assaulted her by slapping her mouth the evening of December 13th. He’s then accused of bending the girl over his knee and spanking her hard multiple times.

The mother discovered the following day that the spanking left the girl with heavy bruising across the entirety of her buttocks and lower back which became red, blue and black in color. She contacted the Department of Human Services, who began an investigation.

During an interview with the girl on December 18th, she told them that she was spanked because she told a lie. She also alleged that Wallace abuses drugs and alcohol and gets “angry and mean” when he’s drinking.

When contacted, Wallace allegedly admitted only to swatting her butt a couple of times with her clothes on. He was arrested Wednesday and charged with Child Endangerment with Bodily Injury, a Class D Felony punishable by a prison sentence of up to five years if convicted.
