A West Branch man faces an Operating While Intoxicated charge after an accident near Mehaffey Bridge.

Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies were called to Mehaffey Bridge Road near its intersection with Rice Ridge Circle just after 12:30am on October 27th for a vehicle in the ditch with its horn blaring. Investigators say the driver, 28-year-old Zachary Franks of Eisenhower Street, admitted to driving and flipping his Chevy Silverado into the ditch right after leaving a bar.

Deputies say Franks admitted to drinking four vodka Red Bulls earlier in the night and showed multiple signs of intoxication. He was taken to a hospital for injuries suffered in the crash. While there, he took a portable Breathalyzer test that registered his blood alcohol content at .132%. A blood test was submitted to the Department of Criminal Investigation which resulted in a BAC reading of .145%.

A warrant for Franks’ arrest was issued on Wednesday. He’s charged with 1st offense OWI.
