A Coralville man with a lengthy criminal record and on probation on two felonies has been arrested after allegedly striking a minor girl.

Police say the incident occurred on October 24th at his Coral Court residence. 22-year-old Artquon Kirksey was reportedly involved in a fight with his live-in girlfriend, and Kirksey was gone by the time officers responded.

The victim in the case is the girlfriend’s sister, and was at the scene during the argument. She confronted Kirksey about the fight, and he allegedly punched her in the face. The girl suffered bruising, swelling, and redness to one of her eyes.

The girl’s mother was made aware of the altercation and was very adamant about pursuing charges. A warrant was issued October 28th, and Kirksey was booked into the Johnson County Jail on Assault Causing Bodily Injury charges. With the two felony charges of 3rd degree Burglary and Willful Injury Causing Bodily Injury that he was on probation for, Kirksey could now be sentenced to up to 11 years in prison.

Kirksey has a lengthy court record.  He was charged with Dominion or Control of a Firearm by a Felon and marijuana possession in October; he posted bond on that case and was released.

Kirksey was given a suspended sentence on a Willful Injury Causing Bodily Injury charge in 2019, stemming from an armed robbery committed in Coralville in 2017. A first degree robbery charge was dropped in that instance. He also pleaded guilty to separate charges of threatening a witness in July 2019.

Kirksey’s record goes back to a 2nd degree Robbery charge as a juvenile in 2014.
