An Iowa City man has been taken into custody after threatening to beat up another man at his residence.
According to police, the incident occurred Tuesday afternoon, as the reporting party was in a bathroom taking his contacts out. 59-year-old Robert Henderson reportedly entered the bathroom and shut the door, keeping the reporting party from leaving the room. Henderson is accused of making five statements that he would beat up the other man. Video from the scene shows the man saying to Henderson “leave me alone.”
A witness on scene told officers that Henderson’s actions were not necessarily directed at the reporting party. However, Henderson was issued a harassment warning against the reporting party after an assault on November 26th.
Police took Henderson into custody, and he allegedly made several statements about harming the reporting party next time. Police say he even mentioned that they would find the man “in a bag.”
Henderson has been charged with Assault, False Imprisonment, and 2nd degree Harassment. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to up to 25 months in prison.
