An Iowa City sex offender has died while serving a 25-year prison sentence.
According to the Iowa Department of Corrections, 85-year-old Freddie Owen Drinkard was pronounced dead due to natural causes (not COVID-19 related) at 1:04 a.m. Monday morning at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics.
Drinkard was in prison for 2nd Degree Sexual Abuse after fondling a then-six-year-old three times in 2000 while he was staying at the Alexis Park Inn on South Riverside Drive.
Drinkard’s sentence began on October 13th, 2006.
