An Iowa City man has been arrested after allegedly getting into a mobile home that he had been evicted from and causing thousands in damage.
Police say witnesses observed 24-year-old Christian Garcia of Dickenson Lane enter a mobile home in the Bon Aire Mobile Home Park on Highway Six East Sunday just before 4:30pm. Garcia had previously been evicted from the residence.
The witnesses said after Garcia and two others got into the home, they heard loud noises indicative of items and property being destroyed. The three then left the residence.
While officers stopped Garcia, other officers spoke with property management, who provided proof of eviction. Police were shown the interior of the trailer and saw numerous holes in the drywall, destroyed cabinets and destroyed appliances. The damage was estimated at over $10,000.
Garcia, when confronted by officers about the damage, would only admit to being at the trailer, claiming that he was locked out and didn’t enter.
He was taken into custody and charged with 3rd degree Burglary and 1st degree Criminal Mischief. If convicted on both charges, Garcia could be sentenced to 15 years in prison.
