A University of Iowa student was injured after she hit a car that was being chased by police in the Quad Cities Sunday afternoon.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, a trooper tried to pull over a 2005 Buick being driven by 31-year-old Kathryn Burkhead of Donahue, Iowa, on Interstate 80 eastbound approaching I-280 just after 4:30pm. Burkhead refused to yield, and a chase ensued. She led officers onto I-280, then exited eastbound on Kimberly Road in Davenport. Just west of the intersection of Kimberly and Wisconsin Avenue, Burkhead lost control and entered the oncoming lane, where she was hit broadside by a 2013 Jeep being driven by 22-year-old Emilie Heggen of Iowa City.

Burkhead was pronounced dead at the scene. Heggen, a student in the UI College of Pharmacy, was transported to Genesis East Medical Center for undisclosed injuries.
