Coralville Police say a pregnant woman pepper-sprayed her boyfriend in front of them, inadvertently hitting their officers as well.
Investigators were dispatched to the Iowa Lodge on The Coralville Strip at 2:10 Monday morning for a domestic assault. The male half was out on the balcony when officers arrived, and his girlfriend, 25-year-old Tamara Longmire, was inside her apartment. When Longmire heard her boyfriend talking with officers, she came to the doorway. Officers say they told Longmire to stay inside, but she refused and came out to confront her boyfriend.
The boyfriend then walked back into the apartment and was followed by Longmire, who then allegedly produced a can of pepper spray and sprayed him with it. The cloud of spray also hit officers, causing them to have trouble breathing. The boyfriend suffered pain in his face and also had difficulty breathing.
Longmire and her boyfriend have been in an intimate relationship for over a year. She’s now charged with Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Injury and Interference With Official Acts Causing Injury. If convicted, he faces a maximum of two years in jail.
Longmire has a lengthy criminal history. She spent two days in jail last year after shoving a North Liberty Police officer investigating an unrelated incident at her Penn Oaks Drive apartment complex. Also last year she was given probation after she and another woman were found to have stolen phones, cash, and credit and debit cards from the locker room at the University of Iowa Campus Recreation and Wellness Center, then went to Coral Ridge Mall and racked up nearly $1,300 in fraudulent charges on goods and services. Longmire has other recent convictions for theft and criminal mischief as well.
