Iowa City Police say a man clutching a bottle of gin was arrested after they found him passed out behind the wheel of his car.

Passersby reported the incident at 1st Avenue and Court Street just before 5:30 Monday morning. Arriving officers say they found 35-year-old Lindsay Mitchell of Taylor Drive unconscious at the wheel of his Nissan Murano with the gearshift in drive, his foot on the brake, and a partially-full bottle of gin clutched in his grasp. Police say he showed multiple signs of intoxication, showed impairment on field sobriety tests and registered a blood alcohol content of .212% on a Datamaster.

Mitchell is charged with Operating While Intoxicated – 2nd Offense. If convicted, he faces a maximum of two years in jail. In August he was charged with Domestic Abuse Assault after he allegedly pushed the mother of his two children off her bed and hit her in the back of the head with a stereo speaker. Arraignment in that case is set for November 2nd.
