The University of Iowa is holding off on allowing students to pursue study abroad programs through at least mid-January.
That’s according to a COVID-19 update posted by the school on Monday. The update says that based on a risk assessment and guided by UI International Travel Policy for Students, UI International Programs does not plan to enroll students in international travel through at least Jan. 15th, 2021. The UI says despite international travel still being on hold, it will continue to develop new ways students can connect with the world. Some of those ideas can be found on the school’s International Programs website.
Also according to Monday’s update, 12 new COVID-19 cases have been reported among students since Friday and four among UI employees. That’s a total of 2,056 student cases and 60 employee cases since the fall semester began.
Three residence hall students are currently under quarantine and four are in self-isolation. Quarantine is used to keep someone who might have been exposed to COVID-19 away from others, while self-isolation is used to separate people infected with the virus from people who are not infected.
