An Iowa City man has been taken into custody on a warrant stemming from an alleged burglary and theft of a dog.

According to police, 31-year-old Muragizi Semukiza entered an apartment on the 400 block of South Linn Street the afternoon of July 15th and allegedly stole several items, including a dog and clothing from the reporting party’s adult son. Semukiza had no permission to enter the residence, and the reporting party was not home.

The victim told police that they saw Semukiza with their dog on a later date.

A warrant was issued for Semukiza’s arrest on July 23rd: he was located and booked into the Johnson County Jail on Monday. He’s been charged with 4th degree Theft and 3rd degree Burglary, and could be sentenced to up to six years in prison if convicted.
