Iowa City police have a man in custody after he allegedly caused thousands of dollars in damage to vehicles at three different locations.

The first incident occurred around 3:30 Sunday afternoon. 44-year-old Michael Dacunos was reported punching car windows in the lot at Deery Brothers Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram. He was stopped and identified a few blocks away. The officer then drove to the scene and discovered two vehicles with broken rear-view mirrors. Management discovered two other vehicles damaged, and an officer found a fifth with damage.

Surveillance video showed Dacunos punching the mirrors out of the five brand-new vehicles. Total damage was estimated to be $2000.

Within the same half-hour time frame, Dacunas allegedly broke the rear-view mirrors on a Mercedes located in the 600 block of South Riverside Drive, causing $600 in damages.

Finally, a little before 4:!5, Dacunos was observed by several witnesses, damaging vehicles in a parking lot on the 1100 block of South Gilbert Street. The witnesses alleged that Dacunos jumped on several cars and broke the windows out of them. Damage in the third incident was estimated at $5000.00

When confronted about his behavior, Dacunos allegedly stated that people were lying and telling police that he threw a baseball at cars, and hit vehicles with an umbrella that he was holding.

He was arrested and charged with one count of 4th degree criminal mischief and two counts of 2nd degree criminal mischief. If convicted on all counts, Dacunos could be sentenced to up to eleven years in prison.
